#70 Transforming conflicts

Shownotes

For the peace builder Dr. Scilla Elworthy, the most powerful tool to stop violence is listening. In her work in violent conflicts worldwide the Nobel Prize for Peace nominee knows that when people feel anger, fear or suffer from trauma, they are not able to listen to what others say. Talking at them is not useful.

But if peace builder can listen to them, they hold the key to transform violent conflicts into peace. As listening is a gesture of showing respect to a person, it is the antithesis of the humiliation that is often the cause for anger or fear.

In Ukraine Scilla practices her understanding of peace by connecting female grassroots leaders. Their voices have hardly been heard and they share a great wisdom of what is the best to do for both sides to solve the conflict. Scilla knows that anger can destroy communication and the consequences are difficult to heal.

„Anyone can be a peace builder“, Scilla says. It needs practice in self awareness, and being present enough in the moment to be able to react calmly to violence. In quietness you will find answers to questions, to discover what action is the most likely to open up communication.

In the Mighty Heart course Scilla teaches leaders worldwide how they can bring understanding in their families, organisations, governments, and conflicts. Heart Intelligence is the best balance to artificial intelligence if we want to make wiser decisions for the future. Here you can find more information about the Mighty Heart.
